Protect Z is a security utility for personal or publicly accessible computers. This software-only solution lets you restrict access to the any non-virtual folders and/or files and edit a lot of different system policies of Windows 95/98/Me. With Protect Z, you can make folders invisible or 'read-only', make them undeletable, unrenameable, unreadable, unwritable, or just keep their attributes as is ( unchanged ). Both files and folders including (or excluding) the subdirectories inside them can be protected. With the wild cards feature, you can protect, for example all EXE or DLL files to be unwritable. And you may also set all files to have their attributes unmodifiable, so keeping read only files or hidden files. Protect Z protects files and folders on local hard disk drive, network drive or character device and give you possibility to see all of unauthorized access stored in a log file. With Protect Z you can permit access by specified processes to the protected files or folders. Protect Z allows you to prevent of using any of hot key combinations. And itself can be started with use of predefined set of hot keys. 'Additional settings' allows you to make a flexible control of many Windows 95/98 resources, such as the Network settings, Start Menu, Control Panel, Desktop, etc.
