It is located between the Yenisei Gulf of the Kara Sea and the Khatanga Gulf of the Laptev Sea. The territory of the peninsula is occupied by the Taimir Autonomous Region. The latter also includes the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago and Franz Josef Land Archipelago. The both archipelagoes are situated in the Kara Sea and Laptev Sea of the Arctic.
