Proper medical treatment begins with a correct diagnosis. The accuracy of diagnosis determines success of intervention, even in the absence of treatable disease. Nearly 100,000 people die in U.S. hospitals each year due to diagnostic errors, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Computer Aided Diagnostic (CAD) software can manage the large volume of information that is involved in the diagnostic process. CAD software has the potential to take over tedium and allow the clinician more freedom to do what they do best. “The problem with most diagnostic support products is that physicians are impatient and in a hurry -- they don't like spending time on re-entry of data," says Barry Heib, a medical doctor and an analyst at Gartner Inc. The answer is iSmartsoft WinNBQ. WinNBQ has an interface for busy physicians and a content management system for the huge amount of clinical data. WinNBQ is an interactive computer aided diagnostic software for internal medicine that helps physicians to diagnose diseases. WinNBQ uses more than 4,400 clinical findings to describe the profile of 612 diseases. Findings include medical history, symptoms, physical signs, and laboratory test results. The Windows version of WinNBQ is available for single user; a Web-based version is under development.
